Summer was our best season:
it was sleeping on the back screened porch in cots,
or trying to sleep in the tree house;
summer was everything good to eat;
it was a thousand colors in a parched landscape…

~Harper Lee from “To Kill a Mockingbird”

  1. Nothing – absolutely nothing – smells better than sheets dried outside, preferably in bright sunlight, aided by a
    gently snapping wind to remove any wrinkles….I am a ‘city girl’ and I hang my sheets out – even in October and November when possible. Am the only one in the ‘hood’ who does this. If my neighbors only knew the simple pleasure they are missing….

  2. I agree completely, Alice and Michele, outdoor laundry is the best! “A gently snapping wind” and “praying its vapors to the sun” are pure poetry!
