When He Says “As You Wish…”

{Buttercup’s} heart was a secret garden and the walls were very high.

Buttercup: We’ll never survive.
Westley: Nonsense. You’re only saying that because no one ever has.

Westley: Hear this now. I will always come for you.
Buttercup: But how can you be sure?
Westley: This is true love. You think this happens every day?

That day, she was amazed to discover that when he was saying “As you wish”,
what he meant was, “I love you.”
And even more amazing was the day she realized she truly loved him back.
~William Golding, quotes from The Princess Bride

How was I ever blessed to find just such a farm boy?
A farm boy who says “I love you” in many ways every day,
so the walls of my secret garden heart come tumbling down…

  1. I found it -and ‘it’ found me, nearly three years ago – as an octogenarian. Except it was not ‘luck.’ It was a beautiful gift from God that I treasure with every breath..

  2. Same for me, I pinch myself daily. After being alone for 18 years, the Lord gave me a husband and he is the best. Our kids got married, we had chatted a bit online to prepare for the wedding, he came for the wedding….we were married 8 months later. God is good.♥

  3. Oh yes. God placed that special love in my heart 27 years ago. I was so blessed He saved the best for me and my dear farm boy. It was a second marraige for both of us, something neither of us were looking for. Truly a match made in heaven. God took Eli last November and I still thank God for sharing him with me. Thanks Emily, for such a beautiful post about your love with your farm boy.

  4. Sixty years now for us–the farm boy and the city girl–both committed to oneness in Christ. Indeed God is so good, so faithful–His timing is always perfect–our times are in His hands! I love hearing everyone’s individual love-miracle stories!
